What is the minimum age to drive in Malta?
In Malta, as well as in most European countries, you need to be 18 years of age or older to be able to drive most vehicles. For C, CE, D1 and DE1 category, you must be over 21 years old and for D and DE category you must be 24 years old unless you are in possession of CPC Initial Qualification Certification, then its also 21.
How Can I get a driving license in Malta?
There are certain
procedures that you need to follow in order to obtain a driving license in
Malta. According to Transport Malta, you need to follow the following steps:
- Identify
an Instructor;
- Obtain
a Learner's permit;
- Apply
and sit for the Theory Test;
- Submit
Application for Practical Test;
- Sit
for the driving ability test;
If you pass the driving tests, you'll be granted a probationary driving license, valid for 3 years, and is subject to the penalty point system.
Can I exchange my foreign driving license?
Any person holding a
driving license issued outside Malta and the EU, apart from Switzerland and
Australia can drive in Malta for 1 year since his/her last entry into Malta.
How much does it cost to get a driving license?
The
overall cost depends on many variables. You need to pay for a Learner's permit
(approx. €23.50) and theory test (€30.25) as well as for driving insurance while
learning. Motoring schools usually charge per hour for the driving lessons, and
it depends on you, how long it will take you to get ready for the test. If you
would like to have an estimate it is best if you call several motoring schools and
request a quote from each one of them.
