Picking up at Malta Airport
Most rental companies in Malta operate from Malta International Airport in Luqa. Some have desks in the arrivals hall; others meet you there and walk you to their cars, which are often kept in the Park East rental car park a short walk from the terminal. Your booking voucher tells you which applies and where to go — it's worth reading before you land.
Arriving late or early?
Not every company's desk is open around the clock. If your flight lands late at night or very early, check the pick-up hours in the conditions before you book, and add your flight number so the company knows if you're delayed.
How far is it to…?
The airport is in the south-centre of Malta, so nowhere is far: roughly 15–20 minutes to Valletta, 20–30 minutes to Sliema and St Julian's, and 45 minutes to an hour to Mellieħa or the Gozo ferry at Ċirkewwa — longer in rush-hour traffic.
Returning the car
Allow extra time to return the car, have it checked and walk back to departures — rental returns and terminal traffic can both be slow in summer. Top up the tank at a petrol station near the airport if you're on a full-to-full policy.
