Deposit, excess and rules at Goldcar
- Deposit
- Equal to the excess for your car group, held for 14–30 days on a credit card or taken from a debit card. €300 if you buy their Relax or Super Relax cover; Mega Relax still holds €300 for fuel, fines or negligence.
- Insurance excess
- Depends on the car group. Super Relax lowers it to €300; Relax and Mega Relax take bodywork damage to zero.
- Debit card for the deposit
- Yes. Accepted, but with a debit card the excess amount is charged rather than held.
- Taking the car to Gozo
- Allowed. Their Malta terms say you can take the car to Gozo at no extra cost.
- Driver age
- 21 to 75, with a licence held for over a year. Drivers under 25, or with a licence held 1–4 years, pay €5 a day (up to €60 a rental); 71–75 pay €15 a day.
- Fuel policy
- Their rate includes a "Quick Return System" fuel charge that depends on the car group, and a fuel deposit is taken at pick-up.
- Pick-up and delivery
- Desk at Malta International Airport. Collection outside office hours costs €40, and extras paid at the airport desk carry a 13% Premium Location fee.
- Not covered by the insurance
- Not published in their terms — ask before you book.
- Also worth knowing
- Traffic fines carry a €55 handling fee and Valletta CVA charges a €25 admin fee. Returning more than 59 minutes late costs €40 a day plus the extra rental days.
