Deposit, excess and rules at Malta Car Hire
- Deposit
- €250–€1,000 depending on the car, blocked on your card for up to a month from the start of the rental.
- Insurance excess
- €250–€1,000 (plus VAT), depending on the car. Their full damage waiver removes it.
- Debit card for the deposit
- Yes. Visa or Mastercard, debit cards included. Maestro is accepted for payment only; Amex and cash are not accepted.
- Taking the car to Gozo
- Their terms don't say. Roadside assistance covers Malta only: a breakdown on Gozo costs €50–€170, paid to the towing company.
- Driver age
- Standard cover is for drivers 23 and over with 2 years' licence. Drivers aged 21–22 or over 74 pay €9 a day extra; 23–24 pay €5 a day.
- Fuel policy
- Full to full. Missing fuel is charged at €2.50 a litre plus VAT.
- Pick-up and delivery
- Desk in the Malta Airport terminal, open 24 hours (€20 for collections outside office hours). Their site also lists Sliema, St Julian's, Valletta, Mellieħa, Qawra, Buġibba, Ċirkewwa and hotel delivery.
- Not covered by the insurance
- Tyres, rims and wheels, glass, and underside damage.
