Deposit, excess and rules at Hertz
- Deposit
- A hold on your credit card based on the non-waivable excess. No hold if you buy Super Cover at pick-up. Cash deposits aren't accepted.
- Insurance excess
- Even with CDW there's a non-waivable excess; their published terms don't give the amounts by car group. Super Cover removes it.
- Debit card for the deposit
- Sometimes. If you booked with a debit card, you also need to show one or more credit cards at pick-up.
- Taking the car to Gozo
- Allowed. The car may go on the Gozo ferry — and nowhere else outside Malta.
- Driver age
- 21 to 75, with a licence held for at least a year. Drivers under 25 or over 70 pay €8.26 a day.

- Pick-up and delivery
- Malta International Airport (a €13.74 location charge applies to airport pick-ups and drop-offs). Out-of-hours pick-up 20:00–08:30 costs €17.70. Delivery and collection can be booked by phone, not online.

- Only one additional driver is allowed (€5.90 a day). Drivers from outside the EU are strongly advised to bring an International Driving Permit.
